Ms. Yvy Joseph came to J. Garfield Jackson Academy after nearly fifteen years in education. She began her career as a teacher for Sylvan Learning Center in 1996 and within two years of employment her hard work and dedication was recognized when she was promoted to director of the center. 

    Following her dream of working with urban children, Ms. Joseph began her career with the East Orange School District in 1998 as a Language Arts Teacher assigned to John L. Costley Middle School.  During that time, she served as a classroom teacher until 2003, an academic coach until 2005, and the assistant principal until June of 2010.

    Over the course of her career, Ms. Joseph has earned the following awards and recognitions: Sylvan Learning Center Educator of the Year (1998), John L. Costley Middle School Teacher of the Year (2001), Governor's Teacher Recognition Recipient (2001), John L. Costley Middle School Award of Appreciation (2009, 2010).       

    Ms. Joseph is a member of Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association.  Outside of professional interests, she travels widely, reads, and enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially her young son, Michael.
