• 05116 MUSIC HISTORY & APPRECIATION (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: 
    Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 (G) Full Year Course

    Music History and Appreciation is a survey course reviewing musical periods from   World   Music   from    our    oldest    cultures    to    Contemporary  Music. Representative composers and music from each period are listened to, discussed, and compared. Students will study basic music theory and the various musical styles. Students will have the opportunity to explore creativity through rhythm and musical expression by participating in playing various percussion instruments in a creative workshop environment.

    05101 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC I (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: MS BAND, PAST TRAINING, OR PERMISSION FROM INSTRUCTOR
    Grade 9, 10, 11, (G) Full Year Course

    Instrumental Music I is a course designed for the beginning band student and is open to the student who has completed Middle School Band, has past instrumental music training, or by permission of the instructor. The  course meets daily throughout the year and consists of instruction on woodwinds,  brass, and percussion instruments in the following areas: instrumental techniques that further develop the student's range, musicality, dynamics, key signatures, scales/rudiments, and musical terms, continued work on posture, fingerings/hand positions; and basic knowledge of music theory. This course will include the study of Music History and exposure to a variety of cultures and styles through the music sight read and performed.

    05101 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC II (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC I, PAST TRAINING, OR PERMISSION FROM INSTRUCTOR
    Grade 10, 11, 12, (G) Full Year Course

    Instrumental Music II is course designed for the intermediate band student and is open to the student who has completed Instrumental Music I, has past instrumental music training, or by permission of the instructor. The  course meets daily throughout the year and consists of instruction on woodwinds,  brass and percussion instruments in the following  areas: instrumental techniques that further develop the student's range, musicality, dynamics, key signatures, scales/rudiments, and understanding of musical terms, continued work on posture, fingerings/hand positions; and basic knowledge of music theory. This course will include the study of Music History and exposure to a variety of cultures and styles through the music sight read and performed.

    05101 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC III (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC I, II
    Grade 11, 12, (G) Full Year Course

    This is a continuation of Instrumental I and II. This course is for students who want to continue to studying a musical instrument for a third year.

    05101 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC IV (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC I, II, III
    Grade 12, (G) Full Year Course

    This is a continuation of Instrumental I, II and III. This course is for students who want to continue to studying a musical instrument for a fourth year.

    05111 VOCAL I (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: 
    Grade 9, 10, 11 (G) Full Year Course

    In this introductory course to choral singing students will learn basic musicianship skills such as basic rhythmic values, time signatures, dynamics, articulation, and solfege. Students will also be introduced to music history through the chosen choral repertoire, various genres, forms, and proper singing technique. The course culminates with a performance at the end of each semester.

    05110 CHORUS I (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: VOCAL I
    Grade 10, 11, 12 (G) Full Year Course

    Students build basic musicianship skills working on rhythmic values, duple and triple meter, and a wide range of dynamics and articulation. Students develop their knowledge of solfege. Students will critique and study historical periods in music through singing and performing choral repertoire in various styles, forms and genres. Proper singing technique will be polished. Singing exams and written assessments review and assess learned concepts. Students are expected to perform in various school performances, festivals and the winter and spring concert.

    05110 CHORUS II (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: CHORUS I
    Grade 11, 12 (G) Full Year Course

    Students build upon basic musicianship skills introduced in Vocal 1 and Chorus 2 by learning more advanced rhythmic values, duple and triple meter, and a wider range of dynamics and articulation. Students further their knowledge of solfege. Students will also further their knowledge of music history by singing and performing choral repertoire in various styles, forms and genres. Proper singing techniques will be polished through the advancement of their knowledge of vocal pedagogy. Students are expected to perform in various school performances, festivals and the winter and spring concert.

    05110 CHORUS III (5 Credits)
    Prerequisite: CHORUS II
    Grade 12 (G) Full Year Course

    This is a continuation of Chorus III for EOCHS students. This  course is for students who want to continue studying vocal music for a fourth year.
