A Message from the Principal

  • Picture18 A Message From the Principal

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2019 – 2020 school year!  Believe it or not, the new school year is just in a few short weeks! The staff and I are looking forward to working with you and your children. We pledge to maintain Jackson Academy’s vision, “to prepare our students to become well rounded, empathetic, college and career ready LEADERS, equipped to compete in our global society.”

As a Leader in Me school, Jackson students will continue to study leadership skills throughout the school year using The Leader in Me Leadership Guide. The Leader in Me involves learning about The 7 Habits of Happy Kids and applying those habits to their daily lives. From time to time, your child will bring home assignments or have questions about leadership.  You are encouraged to make the best use of these opportunities and look for ways to apply the skills at home. To learn more, visit www.theleaderinme.org.

The first day of school is Thursday, September 5.  All students must arrive at 8:15 a.m. and will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m.  Breakfast is available to Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students beginning at 7:45 a.m.  All other students will receive breakfast beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Drop off / Pick up is located at the back of the building accessible from Lincoln Street.  The school does not have before and/or after care so it is important that the start and end times are closely noted.  If you are interested in an aftercare program, feel free to contact Seasons of Learning at (973) 399-7000.  This private program is located at Jackson each weekday until 6:00 p.m.

Our Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 19 at 5:00 p.m. The Open House will give you the opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and other staff members.  Our Scholastic Book Fair will also occur that week.

The East Orange School District is a uniform district.  All Jackson Academy students must wear dark blue pants, skirts, or jumpers with white or light blue shirts or blouses.   Students are required to wear uniform every day.  NO EXCEPTIONSGym attire can be worn but must be in the school colors: blue and white.  As always, students can wear their regular uniform during gym with sneakers.

Uniforms may be purchased at the following locations:

In order to maintain ongoing communication between home and Jackson Academy, it is important that you inform our office immediately of any address and/or phone number changes.

There are several additional ways in which you can stay informed.  If you have not already done so, please sign up on the parent portal via the district website. Parents/Guardians have access to their children’s report cards, grades, etc. Download the FOCUS app! Just search EOSD Community Portal in ITunes or Google Play.  Report cards will not be printed.

We will also continue to utilize the School Messenger system in order to keep you informed of important school events.  In addition, you can visit our Facebook page and sign up for Class Dojo once you receive details from your child’s classroom teacher.

Classroom supply lists for your child’s grade level are now available on our Jackson Academy webpage: https://nj02207379.schoolwires.net/cms/lib/NJ02207379/Centricity/Domain/814/2019SupplyLists.pdf

Classroom supply lists can also be found on our Facebook page and ClassDojo.

Beginning Tuesday, August 27, newly enrolled parents are welcome to visit our school for a tour of the facility and to receive additional information.

We welcome your participation, input, and suggestions. Please feel free to come by the school, call, or email me at yjoseph@eastorange.k12.nj.us if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you for your cooperation and support!
